Fae Today Gone Tomorrow - Chapter 1

The cool air entered my office in a breeze, fluttering none of the papers on my desk. The sound of traffic mixed with the buzzing of the neon signs resonated in my ears as the smell of the city came alive with the setting sun. I loved it here. New Amsterdam was one of the biggest cities in the states yet held an old-time feel that echoed with the magic of its past.

Rebel Angel Excerpt

“Come on, girl, let’s get inside. I gotta get ready for work.” Jezebel bounded up the stairs. I followed closely, as I had no intention of dressing up for work. Never did, but that was the benefit of owning my own business. Also, no one expects a private investigator to dress up. Usually, everyone assumes I’m on a case.

A Brief History of Urban Fantasy

The modern-day setting has its share of monsters. However, in the urban fantasy setting, these monsters take the form of the supernatural. Whether a ghost, vampire, werewolf or something equally frightening, it is up to the main character to find out what is happening and why. A good bit of this setting lies heavily in the horror realm, while some authors take it the genre of romance.

A Slaughter of Angels

Rian MacCaren here, owner and PI at the Midnight Agency. Most of the cases I took required the graveyard shift, but who needed sleep anyway? Living the angel life wasn’t easy, and being half-angel wasn’t any easier.

Weekly Micro-FIction Stories

In my study, I gripped the Sig in my hand. Its rough grip panel rested easily in my hands. Damian gifted me the gun when I graduated from the academy, along with a magazine of silver bullets. "Will you do it, Steven?" Damian asked. Sliding my hand down the barrel, I cocked back the hand. "Do I have a choice?" I said. "No," he said, a growl escaping his lips. "Is this what you want?

Why You Should Write Short Stories

Angelology

As much as I love the urban fantasy/paranormal genre of books, they're overrun with vampires, werewolves, witches, and wizards. I love those, and some fantastic authors write about all those I listed. I wanted something different. Since my last name is Angel in Italian, I figured why not a protagonist who has angelic blood. Perhaps a Nephilim. I did have to take some creative license as it seems all the Nephilim appeared to be giants. I couldn't very well have an 8ft private investigator running around.

The Call of The Shadow

The fires raged in the forge. They echoed the power that lived within Valen. With every flicker of the flame, the magic within him raged. It poured out like a torrent of mighty water in a rushing river. Raising his hands, what was once unmarked skin became pocked with scars. They hurt.

The Things We Don't Talk About in the Light

It took a lot of thought and balls to write this and even more to finally post this for the world to see. At times, I feel like any anxiety or depression I feel isn’t worth talking about or not worth it as I see others who have it worse. Tackling this part of me to ask or seek help is the hardest. Like most men, many of us see it as a sign of weakness and not one of strength.
